Fashion in the Desert

I have lived in Arizona most of my life. Fashion is both beautiful and practical. I would have it no other way. I love the fashion on the streets and in the mountains. I enjoy visiting parts of the state and finding something unique they wear there. It can end up being a regular piece of what I am known for.

Inspiration came from trips to the Arizona Historical Society Museum, classes at Pima Community College, and the SCA. Growing up in the 60's and 70's in Arizona helped as much as anything, but the greatest contribution to sewing was my Aunt Cindy.

An Observation:

There are several sustainable sites I visited through the pandemic that helped to pass the time yet stir some thoughtful ideas to recycle items that were not working for me but I loved.

My favorite experience by far was ThredUP. I found that it was busting at the seams with great finds. Then I found that there was some designs by Christian Siriano. So many designers and artists seemed to be using the site. My two favorite finds were a dress that I remade for a comfortable dress in white and purple. The other was a Rebecca Minkoff satchel purple that has gotten multiple compliments.

Poshmark is were I started this journey through my classes at PCC. I have sold a few things found some more things and love the versatility of the site as it is for household stuff as well as fashion.

Stitch Fix was a styling service I treated myself to. It was enlightening to see how someone else might dress me and how some people paid attention to detail and others did not. By far though a great experience.
